A virology pioneer
During the 2003 SARS crisis, a lot was at stake—especially in Asia. Dr. Ng’s research group has been credited for developing reliable and sensitive diagnostic kits to detect the Sars-CoV and Avian Influenza H5N1 viruses. Her research focuses on infectious disease preparedness through vaccines, diagnostic kits, and therapeutic antibodies. Dr. Ng is an ASEAN Young Scientist and Technologist Award recipient, and in 2008 was the first Singaporean and woman scientist to be awarded it.
